WELCOME TO OUR STUDIO UPDATE PAGE
THE MAKING OF 'MINDCREEPER'

We thought that we would keep you all updated on the progress of the making of our new album. We hope you find the updates and pictures interesting, so here's the news so far...

On the weekend of 2nd and 3rd April 2005, we had a good two-day session laying down the drums and bass tracks. Although Phil, Norms and Paul were there too, playing their parts for guide purposes, it was the drums and bass that we were concentrating on getting down right.

We played the songs as a band, to capture the energy, and Kev and Nigel did an excellent job in laying down solid foundations, for Norms and Phil to record their layers of guitars onto.

Phill Doyle tweaked the knobs!

Phill Doyle for Kindred Productions was at the helm, making sure we got the best takes. We have known Phill for some time now, he has worked the sound desk for us live, and recorded the material for our live album, so he knows how we work and what sounds we are looking for. He also has a wicked sense of humour, which helps, and if he didn't work in music, he would probably be a comedian!!

Norms and Phil have been in several times now, laying down the rhythm guitar tracks. We had got the Marshall Amps sounding nice and hot, and laid down the raunch for 'Don't trust The Preacher', 'Mindcreeper', 'Knockin' On The Gates of Hell' and 'Athenian Glory'.

We returned on Monday 18th April and started to lay down the riffs for 'Hot Metal' when Phil's amp (a Marshall JCM 800) flashed and went 'bang' It has just returned from the Marshall factory having received some tender loving care.

Below is a picture of the guitars in the studio (it looks like a Gibson shop!) You may recognise the two guitars on the right as Norm's black flying V and Phil's red SG, which we have been using live since the 80's.

When we record we use a variety of guitars for different sounds.

Phil and Norms returned on 4th May to lay down guitars for 'Where Angels Fear To Tread' and 'Hot Metal' and record the harmony guitars for 'Knockin' On The Gates of Hell'.

Phil recorded the accoustic guitars for 'Guiding Star' and 'Don't Trust The Preacher', and recorded the guitar solo for 'Guiding Star' (with the Les Paul) on Saturday 7th May.

Phil

On 11th & 12 June Norms and Phil returned to finish off the rhythm guitar tracks.

Into September and most of the lead guitar solos have been recorded now. Below are a couple of pictures of Phil laying down the finishing touches.

Phill Doyle for Kindred Productions is doing an excellent job keeping it all together at the controls...

By the end of October 2005 we are recording the finishing touches. Nigel came in on the 24th October to record an additional drum part to the middle of 'Don't Trust The Preacher' and to have a listen with Kev to the work done so far...

Phil recorded the keyboard parts to 'Guiding Star' and 'Where Angels Fear To Tread' on the 24th October...

The album is now mixed and mastered, ready for release in 2006.
